I am a sports nut, and willingly so. But I know the difference between being a blind sports nut and one who does his best to apply common sense to all the games that catch his interest.
I simply do not think my team. however great it is, is going to win all its games. And when my team loses, I do not fault the referees for the calls they made that hurt my team very badly/\
I do not expect the stands to the be full for every game. I do not think my team is almost always right, even on controversial calls. And, to top off my Good Sense, I applaud with all my energy when my team wins justly, having played up to the abilities of its members.
Needless to say, it's not always easy to apply good sense to one's sports interests. We want so badly for our team to be the winner, and most, if not all of the time.
I applaud the relatively new practice of teams matching hands when a game is over. It's impressive when they do.
Lastly, let me apply the best good sense I know in a kind of last judgment: it always pays to congratulate the other team, the referees, and, as needed, the hometown hosts, whenever that applies. (A lot of work goes into hosting a game.)
