We Americans are well known, to others as well as amongst ourselves, for our abuse of our native language, which supposedly, is a form of modern English.
And it is the case, albeit arguably, that we abuse no two words more than we do liberal and conservative. For ofttimes, when we say a person is "liberal" we really mean that he or she is conservative, and the very opposite can also too often be the case.
In reality, "liberal" refers to personal values or movements and even events that may be mostly without boundaries. We can also be more specific when we are using "liberal" to define those politicians and others we think are pushing for too much change, and too rapidly.
On the other hand, we Americans often label "conservative" anyone or any trend we think outdated or "living in the past", when we early should be calling conservative every serious attempt to preserve the best of the past.
In short, our usages of these two wors are frequently downright wrong.
So, you, the reader or view, may ask, which label, conservative or liberal, applies to this article?
Our answer: ultraconservative in the main, but up-to-date and not in defense of past errors and mistakes.
