The Best of the Losers

The football competition among the smaller Texas high schools is so powerful that often there seems to be little difference between those who lead the pack and those who trail them closely. Therefore, Puttbeat is proposing a new , award: The Best of the Losers.

As the award title indicates, it will go to the team that shows it is indeed the best of the trailers.

And already there is a noteworthy pretender: the Boling Bulldogs appear to lead the pack. The Bulldogs have lost four games, all four to very strong teams, while winning three for a 3-4 record, as of Oct 16.

The Bulldog losses have been to four teams considered formidable by most who follow the games: Those losses were to Ganado, Hallettsville, Shiner and, most recently, over Rice Consolidated.

There are, of cause, other contenders for this uncoveted award, most noticeably perhaps are longtime powers, Refugio and Mart. Already, the Bobcats have lost three games and the Panthers, five.

.

To Win or Not to Win?

But who knows? Teams currently at the top of their divisions may falter, in which case they will become candidates for this award.
