The October Football Surprise of 2026 May Well Be in District 12 of 2AD1

About to enter the third full week of the 2026 season, three teams remain unbeaten in the district: Shelbyville, Timpson and Joaquin. Shelbyville will have its perfect record fully tested on Friday, when the Dragons go against Arp, a 3AD2 team that is also unbeaten.

However, the District 12 title will likely not be decided until October, when the #1 playoff seed will be determined by these three games:

Joaquin st Shelbyville, October 9
Timpson at Joaquin, on Oct. 16; and
Shelbyville at Timpson, October 23

The winner will then take on the #4 team out of Region 4, which could well be Refugio, a team uncharacteristically struggling this year to earn a playoff berth.
